Default is the game becoming too light-hearted?

Does anyone find the dialogue and quest descriptions too light-hearted at times? I mean, I'm all for a good chuckle now and then... but the game seems to lay on the cheesy humor kinda thick. Normally, I could care less... but it's getting rathing annoying.

I don't know, it's starting to wear thin... It's like every 2 seconds there's the game slaps some reference to some pop-culture internet humor, or some not-so-subtle play on words.... kinda like that guy everyone knows in highschool who can't take anything seriously, thinks he's the funniest thing since Jon Stewart, and is in your face all the time telling jokes.

Not to mention a lot of the skill names are turning this game into a joke. Call me hyper-serious here, but I guess I just like my humor a little more sophisticated and subtle.

oh well, just my .02

I rather like the humor in nightfall thus far....especialy commander besuz(I think his name was) really made me laugh. I like the dialogues much better I even read them now

I'm with you on the skill names though, I like those better with serious names too.
Humor doesnt belong in skill names imo (I dont want to think of Mc Hammer for example everytime i use a certain skill is shall not name, or an oponnent uses it).

I figure later on in the game things will get more serious, the portion of the game we played was more of an intro/training type situation. When this evil God guy starts killing people later.... that should make things more serious.

As far as the skill names go, I think its funny..... that goes for the Dances as well.

personally i very much appreciate the light-hearted side of the game.

GW can be a deadly serious affair with the heavy bias to PvP. that side of the game can take serious work and concentration and can easily be a demanding 'job'. having the lighter side in there i feel gives the game a little more emotional balance

No issues with it here. I like the "light-hearted" touch to the game and hope it continues in the future chapters because sometimes, the game becomes too serious and then it gets cheesy.

I don't think light hearted or not really changes the fact the dialouge and voice acting is much much better than previous chapters. I'm actually interested in whats going on for once and not just hitting the check mark to accept quests and so forth.

I second Cloudpiercer. In the PC Gamer feature, they briefly went over each area, and they progressively get more darker and sinister, so perhaps the starter portion is intentionally more lighter-hearted, for contrast to parts we haven't seen yet.

The pre-searing / shing jea area is always lighthearted....

true, personally i like references (though im not getting most of them, relying on u guys to fill me in) but it will get alot darker as the game goes on (imagine organs and blood and flesh laying around everywhere)

I think all the humor is great, be it references, dialog, or skill names. Its always good to see a developer with a sense of humor, and it makes what could be an otherwise dull exercise fun. I actually take the time to read quest dialog now, where in prophecies I almost never did.

*NIT PICK ALERT* This isnt a flame, but the correct expression is "I COULDNT care less..." Sorry but I just had to correct it because I see it used incorrectly so often that it drives me bonkers. Thanks.

Now onto the rest of your post. I dont find that there's too many annoying pop culture references (which I hate too) or too much lightheartedness either. I actually like that it doesnt take itself too seriously.

...theres quest dialog?hmm never noticed anyways ive always liked the little references the game throws at us. they make me smile. i liked going through luxon territory one day doing meaningless fetch quests (stupid factions BUY A DAMN UPS TRUCK!!)and i saw the quest "More Cowbell"<--late show reference. and although i had no plan on actually DOING the quest, it made me laugh. they do seem to be throwing it on kinda thick lately but i think itll balance out the "apocolypse" in the end

I could care less about the humor..

Nah,
I love the light-hearted, humorous game that is Nightfall.
Its fun and refreshing to see your Paragon dance like MJ..the skill Enadiz Headbutt, Cant Touch This, The Power Is Yours, etc.

I love it .

I don't really notice the cheesy humor, yet i like a more serious tone. I think the lightheartedness was only in the beginning.

you obviously didnt read the PC Gamer article, where they describe the different plane of the world. the beggining isle is made to be light-hearted, and easy for a purpose, so there is more of a shock when you move on to the reality of the cataclysmic main-land. they describe one regiong as being made out of human flesh and bone, and being very graphic. and even said that these particular regions really pushed the T rating

Things related to the primary quest are usually serious. Sidequests can have some humor I don't mind that.

PS: John Stewart is lame. :]

Opinions are like, well, you know .... Everyone has one.

But I agree that side quests are the ones that can be humorous.

As far as skill names go I can do without the "funny" ones. I has blissfully forgotten MC Hammer ever existed but now will be constantly reminded unless I stop playing.
